Hello!
My name is Kameron Dailey-Champion, and I am a multi-faceted Supported Employment Professional. I am passionate about supporting the lives of individuals and their personal goals towards both individual and professional growth. I am also passionate about supporting businesses and change processes within organizations.
I currently work as a Vocational Counselor for The ARC of Jefferson-St. Lawrence County, in which my present duties align with supporting individuals receiving services through the Office of Mental Health as they seek ongoing integrated supported employment. I oversee the services provided to the county’s caseload and assure quality services are being provided to individuals receiving services.
Prior to working in my current capacity, I worked as a Counselor for St. Joseph’s Addiction & Treatment agency, supporting inpatient youth through their recovery treatment. I also have experience as a TCNA (Training Certified Nurse’s Assistant) in Massena, NY.
Having shared these few experiences, I highlight the fact that I am passionate about Human Services and supporting individuals through any needs they express, with no questions asked. My view is that if someone expresses a need for support or assistance, there is always a resource, and I am happy to guide individuals into the right direction.
Academic Background:
Many people might think that studying theatre production and acting in college would limit their future career prospects or even hinder their capability in finding high-end paying jobs. I like to explain that it is not the degree or the area of study that causes such an effect, but it is the ability to apply the learned skills and knowledge from the area of study into any situation they face while working in various settings and resolving various challenges.
Versatility, Flexibility, and Adaptability are the skills I prioritized in studying theatre & acting at SUNY Potsdam. Of course, including interpersonal skills such as Collaboration, Motivation, Group Communication and Networking. Theatre production provided me practical hands-on skills such as Scenic Design, Construction and Painting. Costume Design & Construction. Lighting and Sound Operation & Set-Up. Stage Management, and lastly, Rigging and Fly System operation.
In studying acting, my primary takeaways relate to performance, in which my primary route of acting was to react. In order to react, there needs to be a practiced understanding of interpretating another person’s distance from you, pitch, tone, expression, and so on. The ability to interpret behavior or predict another person’s reaction based on the words you use became a second nature habit when interacting with others, which proved immensely beneficial when participating in Job Interviews.
There was a saying in most theatre classes that I’ve taken;
“Every Actor should always take a business class, and every Business Person should take an acting class” - T. Canedy
In order to understand how to gain and monetize the demand for your performance, you must know how to negotiate and discuss and support yourself, your attributes, and your skills to those who inquire for your performance.
In building a diverse skillset, building upon a variety of career field experiences, I’m now able to apply all skills I’ve developed in studying theatre and acting, which I consider to the be art of understanding how to express yourself with anticipation of others’ reactions, I’ve built a reputation as a Jack-of-all-Trades. With my education, I was able to Counsel groups, to Manage Events, to Provide Concepts for Design, Consult co-leaders for Solutions, and the list only continues to grow.
